Notes:
I heard a rustling and the leaves, so I sat and watched for several minutes. I observed the head of the snake going back-and-forth, appearing as though it was stuck. The snake wrapped its body around some branches some branches, appearing as though it was pulling forward . I thought the snake was stuck between some boulders, so I pried the boulders apart slightly with some tools and pulled gently on the snake. As the snake emerged, I observed a Microtus species grasping the tail of the snake with its teeth, pulling it backwards. As the vole was pulled from the rocks it let go and retreated.
