Notes:
We had been to Rincia Island the evening before. There I was thrilled to see Komodo dragons the wild for the first time. There experience was somewhat marred however because every dragon we saw had obvious letters or numbers painted in white on BOTH sides. It was part of some project by an American researcher from California. I mean, I'm really in favor of any research that promotes reptile conservation but did the guy have to ruin photography opportunities for others from BOTH sides just to make his research easier? I consoled myself with the thought that I'd have another opportunity the next day on Komodo. On Komodo, again, all the dragons were defaced with research numbers. I asked a local ranger where I could possibly go to get some shots of dragons without the numbers. He beamed with obvious pride- "Is not possible EVERY dragon is marked!".
Here's some shots face on, the only angle I could get without painted numbers.
