I originally called this a southern hognose, which is (much?) rarer than the eastern hognose. So I suspect that's why Chris changed it to simply Colubridae family. But indeed it was a hognose, I handled it, it smelled quite bad (from eating toads?). It just made it to the grass before I got phone ready, and could not find again in thick grass.
