Spotted this large racer near the edge of the trail. It remained motionless for quite a while and never tried to speed off or bite, even when approached very closely.
When slowly lifted, it spun itself around in a 'death roll' like a crocodile. After about 10 rolls it got tired and was very docile afterwards. Seemed to be around 5.5 - 6 feet long, and a bit thin. High-black coloration on the first half of its body. First photo is in situ.
